Who is Mati?
Mati Lerner never planned to become the guy fixing KYC, but life had other plans. With a career that’s anything but linear, Mati has worn every hat in the private investment world: founder, investor, operator, and reluctant bureaucrat. After years of navigating high-friction onboarding processes from both the fund and investor sides, he co-founded Blackbird to do something radical: make compliance effortless.
Born in Israel, polished in London, and fluent in four languages, Mati’s journey has taken him from law school to JP Morgan to multiple exits and fund structures so complex they gave Swiss bankers headaches. Along the way, he has built deep trust with investors and seen firsthand how flawed the compliance process really is.
Today, he’s not selling hype. He’s solving real problems in a world where compliance is mandatory, but inefficiency is optional. Whether it’s navigating the regulatory minefields or smoothing over the tensions between LPs and GPs, Mati’s seen it all. He brings practical, grounded wisdom and some wild case studies to every conversation.
